Reed’s Story in His Own Words

When asked why he decided to electrify his home, Reed said:

“I decided to switch my system because of the impacts of climate change. I’d like to be a part of the solution and maybe if I [electrify now], it’s cheaper for the next guy. I also saw gas prices were rising, and I wanted to get ahead of that.

My appliances, my furnace, and my air conditioner were over 20 years old. So, it was good timing. I decided to just switch my whole system. The heat pump and the heat pump water heater take care of my heating needs. It has been quiet. The water is hot, and the air is comfortable.

The heat pump did well in the winter and was perfectly comfy. The [electric baseboard] ‘heat strips’ kicked on when they needed to, and it was perfect.”

To meet the home’s needs, the electric resistance baseboards were necessary to augment the temperature in the depths of winter. Secondary system needs may vary for other homes.
