Easing into Electrification in Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie’s Rod Fisher worked to electrify his 1976 home through multiple upgrades over the years. He began with a home energy audit to find out where his home could be more efficient. That led him to insulation, then to electrification. Today, his home features an electric clothes dryer, updated electric panel, and heat pump water heater.

Going All Electric in Minneapolis

Chris Martin electrified his 1949 Minneapolis home in stages, starting with an electric panel, induction range, air source heat pump, and solar panels. The second phase of upgrades included a heat pump water heater, clothes dryer, and insulation. His home is now fully electric and he and his family are “happy with the result.”

Good Timing for Heat Pumps and Solar

Minneapolis homeowner Reed Wilson electrified his 1939 home “because of the impacts of climate change” and because of rising gas prices. Many of his existing appliances and equipment were nearing the end of their lifespans, so he made the decision to switch to an air source heat pump and heat pump water heater. He also installed rooftop solar.

A Hybrid Home in Golden Valley

For Jess Curtes and her husband, Jeff, electrification allowed them to do their part for the environment while saving money. The couple installed a ducted heat pump with a gas furnace for backup heating. They also installed a mini-split in their garage. Finally, they installed a heat pump water heater in their 1959 home.

Staying Cool with a Heat Pump

Lester Shen’s electrification journey started with air conditioning. His 1931 Minneapolis home had a boiler and no ductwork, so he installed a 95% efficient condensing boiler and air source heat pump mini-splits throughout the home. Lester had already insulated and air sealed the home, making his electrification efforts more efficient.
